Unguided Pinaka (Old Version):

Pinaka is an unguided rocket weapon area system (WAS) with a range of 40 km.

It meant to neutralise large areas with rapid salvos.

It can fire a salvo of 12 rockets in 44 seconds with 1.2 tonnes of high explosives.

The battery of six launchers can neutralise at a time a target area of 3.9 sq km.

It has capability to incorporate several types of warheads making it deadly for the enemy as it can even destroy solid structures and bunkers.

The quick reaction time and high rate of fire of the system gives an edge to the Army during a low amount conflict situation.

It has been inducted into Indian Army.
Guided Pinaka (Pinaka-ER):

It is a transformed version of Pinaka

It is equipped with a navigation, guidance and control kit. This conversion considerably enhances the range and accuracy of Pinaka.

The conversion has helped to enhance range of Pinaka to more than 70 km (from earlier 40 km) and accuracy to 50m (from earlier 500m).
