- It is a warm-water, deep-sea port situated on the Arabian Sea
- It is located at the mouth of the Persian Gulf just outside the strategically important Strait of Hormuz
- It has been developed under CPEC which link western China through Pakistan with the Middle East, Africa and Europe.
- The revamped port became operational in November 2016
