ISRO’s future mission:
- Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS) – This is a constellation of 7 satellites which will be used to provide position co-ordinates for India and the neighboring environment. This is critical for its military and strategic uses as those cannot depend on US backed GPS or Russian backed GLONASS systems.
- Reusable Satellite Launch Vehicle – This mission will reduce the cost of delivering satellites into orbit by 1/10th. No other space organisation has such a system.
- Cryogenic Engine – ISRO is also in the final stages of testing an indigenous cryogenic engine. This technology will help India launch payloads of up to 4 tons into the geostationary orbit. It will also help India develop Inter Continental Ballistic Missiles (ICBMs).
- Chandrayaan 2 – After the unprecedented success of Chandrayaan 1, ISRO is already working on Chandrayaan 2 which will be launched in 2017.
- SAARC Satellite – This was proposed by the Prime Minister, as a means of fostering scientific co-operation between the SAARC nations. Thus, it will have a diplomatic pay-off.
- Aditya satellite to study the sun.
- India’s human space flight programme.
- Venus and solar systems exploration programmes( still at inception)
