Report: “Leveraging Urbanisation in South Asia”
Termed Indian Urbanization messy and hidden: Because of difficulties in dealing with pressures that increased population put on basic services, infrastructure, land, housing, and environment.
Called for initiatives at policy and institutional level to tap the economic potential it offers.
Three Fundamental deficit:
- Empowerment of local government : Need is to improve Intergovernmental fiscal relations
- Resources: practical ways must be identified to increase the resources available to local government
- Accountability: strengthening mechanism to hold them accountable
