The Irrawaddy dolphin is an aquatic mammal

It is a euryhaline species of oceanic dolphin.

It is found in discontinuous subpopulations near sea coasts and in estuaries and rivers in parts of the Bay of Bengal and Southeast Asia including the Ganges, the Mekong and in the Irrawaddy River from where it takes its name.

The species has been classified in ‘Endangered‘ category in IUCN red list.

The species is also listed in Appendix I of CITES.
